Welcome to 2007!

So now we are in 2007! The transition from 2006 to 2007 came with a few changes. Florida will have a new Governor Charlie Crist from Jeb Bush, the political party is the same - GOP. The world is now without Saddam. The stock market saw big rally event to the last week of the year while the oil prices danced between $60-70 per barrel. For a change 2006 was mild in hurricane in Florida!

At the technology frontier we are talking more of Windows Vista - at least for the home users, though at the biz level Linux is the 'talk of the town' both at Oracle and Microsoft both supporting Linux to an increasing degree. Even my favorite small website development tool Microsoft Frontpage seems to be aging out as Microsoft is pushing MS Share Point. Yet to explore more of its features, but to transition our community site http://bexley-park.com/ that I created in MS Frontpage was not much of a deal. The good thing is Microsoft let's people test drive the Sharepoint software by downloading it from their site.

Any new year resolutions, one is to file the taxes in time, planning not to go for any extentions this year rather do it in time, went and bought the TaxCut software today, was actually surprized a lot of retailers are open today.

Since I started the first day of the year Blogging, I hope I will keep it up and be more regular this year.

Shyam Varan Nath's Personal Blog

As I get ready to embrace 2007, I decided to create a Blog for myself. To start with a little bit about myself. I work for Oracle Corporation I joined the Business Intelligence group at Oracle and specialize in Oracle Data Mining.

I spend a lot of time promoting the Special Interest Group related to my profession, it is called
Oracle Business Intelligence, Warehousing and Analytics Special Interest Group or Oracle BIWA SIG.

I have been working on Crime Data Mining. Recently, the IEEE Computr Society published my paper on the same topic, it is titled:
Crime Pattern Detection Using Data Mining

I recently visited Germany (Oct 2006) to speak on the related topic.

I live in the Sunny state of Florida, and am able to work as a part of the virtual team. I have lived in South Florida since 1995, and now for last 3 1/2 yrs in Delray Beach City I live in a community called Bexley Park.

I went to Indian Institue of Technology, Kanpur India for my Undergrad in EE. I lot of my batch mates are in USA and I keep running into them either on the web or in some conference. I started my career working for Halliburton and went from the Oil Industry to Health Care to Telecom to finally land in the Business Intelligence group at Oracle.

I guess that is enough for introduction, hopefully will continue to 'blog' regularly in 2007.
